Personality
Carlyon is a good-natured, intelligent and well-spoken man with a seemingly natural charisma. His smile puts his friends at ease and his enemies apprehensive, as he is not one to wear his heart on his sleeve. Despite his wealth and success, he has remained remarkably humble about it and does not spend lavishly, preferring to put it back into the business or into philanthropic pursuits. He is deeply loyal to those who earn his trust, and strives to be fair to his employers, knowing that their toil is what allows him to maintain his position today.
History
Carlyon's parents are Derrick Harvey and Adeline Bainbridge. The former is a Cornish engineer and a nephew of John Harvey, founder of Harvey & Co, a foundry and engineering company based in Hayle. The latter is the daughter of Emerson Bainbridge, the founder of the famous Bainbridge department store in Newcastle.
Carlyon grew up wealthy as a result of his respective parents' families successful forays into engineering, transportation, shipping and merchandising. As a boy he became greatly enamored with steam engines and the impact they had on transportation, and found every excuse he could to accompany his father at work to see the locomotives they worked on first hand, or to witness the bustling shipping lines employed by Bainbridge, which make use of everything from railroads to iron ships to dirigibles to bring goods both mundane and exotic to its customers.
Somewhere deep inside he knew he would always want to be involved closely with transportation in some way or another. Though Carlyon never quite had the same skill with mathematics and physics that would be necessary for his father's trade, he was uplifted by how the steam industry could benefit mankind, so that no destination, however far, would be impossible to reach. With that in mind, he decided to take the path of a businessman, as he had plenty of charisma and economic sense to make up for his passable skill in the hard sciences.
When it came time for Carlyon to attend a university, his parents' wealth and his discipline in academics gave him plenty of choice. He settled with the prestigious Pennington University in London, graduating with a bachelor's degree in Business and Economics at the young age of 20. He went on to pursue a Master of Arts degree in Business, using the graduate program as a springboard to familiarize himself with the important figures of the transportation industry in and around London, as well as research on the successes of current companies and trends.
He established the Penrose Transportation Agency in London by the time he was 25, and for the next nine years has firmly established his presence as one of the youngest and most successful transportation magnates of the region. Though Penrose Transportation's specialty is the moving of individuals from place to place, whether as large-scale work commute or wealthy individuals on vacation, the agency is also heavily involved in the shipping of ores, textiles and foodstuffs.
Carlyon's continued and favorable relationship with both sides of his family have only benefited his trade. Harvey & Co has grown to become one of the most reputable engineering companies of the nation, giving Carlyon access to the latest models and makes of locomotives and other steam-powered vehicles, often months before his competition. Bainbridge has entered a lucrative partnership with Penrose Transportation, the latter serving as their primary source of shipping to and from London.
At 34 years of age, Carlyon's success is well-established, and he has become one of the most eligible single men of the city. However, he continues to keep his schedule packed and his free time scarce, never entertaining more than a few polite words to the ladies who wish to court him. His business is his life... at least for now.
Misc Facts
- Fastidious about his appearance, he is rarely seen about town without his hat and cane.
- Trained in the art of fencing, but more as a hobbyist than a true master.

- Owns a small, private dirigible, christened Cassidy after his younger sister Cassidy Jean (whom he adores and calls his "one true lady").
- He is a music enthusiast, enjoying both symphonies and chamber ensembles. His favorite composer is Johann Sebastian Bach.
- Though he keeps a well-stocked wine cellar, his favorite drink is a scotch on the rocks.
